What is a splitboard?

A splitboard is a snowboard that can be split into two separate skis for backcountry skiing or touring. This allows snowboarders to ascend uphill like skiers, using climbing skins, and then reassemble the board to snowboard back down the mountain.

Splitboards typically have specialized bindings that can be adjusted for both uphill and downhill modes, as well as a system for connecting the two halves securely when in snowboard mode. They also often have a more directional shape and stiffer construction compared to traditional snowboards, to provide better performance in varied snow conditions.

Splitboarding has become increasingly popular in recent years as more riders seek out untracked backcountry terrain while also minimizing their environmental impact. It offers a unique and adventurous way to explore the mountains and experience the serenity of untouched powder snow.
